What is CrossFit?
CrossFit training consists of “constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity”.
What are functional movements you ask? They are movements based on real-world situational biomechanics such as pushing, pulling, lifting, squatting, jumping and running. These are the movements that we utilize everyday from getting in and out of our work chair to lifting groceries out of our car, whether we know it or not we are constantly participating in the main principle of CrossFit; functional movements.
When you walk into Double Edge the first thing you might recognize is that there are no stationary weight machines, treadmills or ellipticals. This is because Crossfit utilizes free weights such as barbells, dumbbells, medicine balls and kettlebells to build strength and conditioning through varied daily workouts known as WODs (workout of the Day).
These WODs are designed to be universally scalable for all ages, abilities and level of fitness by varying the load (weight) and intensity (time) of any workout. This means that at Double Edge you will find beginners and veterans alike participating together in the same workout.
At Double Edge we program so that every workout is different. By constantly varying workouts throughout the week, it not only keeps us from the same routine it trains us to be ready for life’s “unknown”.
Our objective of using CrossFit as our main programming is to improve your capacity in ten recognized fitness domains: cardio-respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. The end result is comprehensive physical fitness and restored vitality
